Live From SugarHill Studios

Live From SugarHill is different from other shows that are shot in the studio environment.  Instead of using the studio as a backdrop or a tool to make a performance sound ‘as good as the record’, LFSH actually stars SugarHill’s legendary Studio A.

Each show is performed, mixed, broadcast, and filmed live.  The studio is configured just the way it would be for a normal session–the setup of the soundstage and the condition of the control room are our real world environment.  Every setup is unique.  The viewer sees mic stands, cables, lighting equipment all as it is set up.  Instead of trying to create a theatrical effect with our video, we go for a documentary ethic that reveals each performance in it’s nascent state:  a direct connection between what is happening in the studio to the viewer and listener. This lack of pretense creates an electric immediacy and authenticity to the performances.  Studio A becomes the real star of the show.  The artists who populate the space are motivated by the vibe, enthusiasm, and love of environment and the people who work at SugarHill every day.  This is a 180 degree reversal of seemingly similar shows such as Live From Abbey Road, VH1 Storytellers.
